Women having arm treated with tool The Graston Technique uses stainless steel instruments to assist in the treatment of soft-tissue injuries. It’s a therapy Dr. Demers and Dr. Bruner will perform to promote healing for several conditions, including sports injuries such as tennis elbow and shin splints. This therapy is also effective in treating tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, plantar fasciitis and rotator cuff trauma. It’s non-invasive and brief, yet it can bring about quick pain relief and speed up healing.

What Does the Graston Technique Involve?

Most sessions involve a brief warm-up before treatment to bring more blood flow to the area of complaint. The treatment itself may only last minutes. During this time, the Doctor will move beveled edge instrument across your skin in gentle scraping motions. This helps them find and identify areas of soft-tissue damage. The instruments magnifies differences in soft tissue, making them easier to find and eradicate. If your injury is old or involves larger areas of damage, you may need multiple sessions.

How Does This Therapy Work?

The Graston Technique uses cross-friction massage to re-introduce mild trauma to affected areas or old scar tissue. This, in return, promotes increased blood flow to the area, enabling faster healing. This technique can ease both acute and chronic pain for clients who could not find relief using other methods. This technique is non-invasive, never breaking the skin, and is comparable to deep-tissue massage where a therapist uses hands and fingertips to manipulate soft tissue.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

When you schedule your first appointment, our team will check you in. We’ll get you in to see Dr. Demers or Dr. Bruner in a timely fashion, and you’ll undergo a clinical assessment to help your medical team better understand your needs.

If the Graston Technique is recommended, you may be asked to do simple exercises to warm up before the treatment and to cool down afterward, which may include electric stimulation and heat when necessary. Treatment is performed in-office, and you’ll often notice results right away. Call us today at 717-999-4347 to schedule your appointment.
